Ellicott City Wood Flooring is a wood flooring business serving Ellicott City, MD and the communities around it, with more than 20 years of experience sanding, repairing and installing wood floors. Our work runs from narrow strip floors in older houses to the oak a builder laid in a 1990s subdivision, from finished basements to townhouse stairs.

We work in homes people are living in, and almost everything about how we operate follows from that. Floors are a big part of a house, and the people who live there should know what is happening to theirs, why, and what it will cost before any work begins.

Our Approach

Worker wheeling a hand truck of unmarked flooring cartons up the driveway of a brick-front house in Ellicott City.

We read the floor before we quote it. That means checking the build year and any painted surfaces before sanding, because houses built before 1978 fall under lead-safe renovation rules; measuring how much wood is left above the tongue on old pine and oak strip floors; and taking moisture readings on concrete and basement floors before any wood goes down. Where we find old resilient tile or black mastic, we stop and have it identified, and leave its removal to the right trade.

While we work, dust stays in the rooms on the schedule, with doors and air returns sealed. You choose your color from stain and sheen samples laid on your own floor, and we pick finishes that fit Maryland’s VOC limits for wood coatings, with fumes and drying times planned around your household. Holes left by radiators, registers and removed walls are patched with boards woven into the floor rather than square patches, and stairs are quoted tread by tread.

We also work with the paperwork that comes with floors. Water damage is traced, dried, read with a moisture meter and documented room by room for the adjuster.

Landlords get an itemized invoice that supports a security deposit deduction, and rental floors in pre-1978 houses are scheduled around Maryland’s lead dust test at each change of tenant. Townhouse and condo work is planned around the association’s own documents, read rather than assumed. Every job comes with a written, itemized estimate you can keep.

What We Do

We refinish wood floors, screen and recoat floors whose finish is worn but sound, and repair damaged boards, squeaks and gaps. We install solid and engineered hardwood, replace carpet with hardwood, and lay herringbone, chevron and wide plank floors. We refinish stairs and parquet, and we restore floors after water damage. If your floor needs any of that, request a free estimate and we will come look at it with you.
